DukeEngage Intern - 2017
Name: Elizabeth Allen
School: Duke University
Hometown: Bowie, MD
What brought you to Crag? DukeEngage is a program at Duke University that sends hundreds of volunteers to nonprofits around the world every summer. I came with nine other Duke students to help work on sustainability and environmental justice issues with different nonprofits here in Portland. I am excited to get involved with Crag Law Center because it works on behalf of the people and places that have been pushed aside.
What are your legal/environmental interests? Environmental justice, environmental health, climate change, preventing extinction, conservation
Favorite place in the PNW: I have not made it to many places around Portland, but I love Marquam Nature Park and Tryon Creek state park.
Favorite Book: If I had to choose one, I would choose Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card. Ask me tomorrow, and it will be different because I read dozens of books a year.
Favorite Quote: “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” –Dr. Seuss, The Lorax
