Internships
Through our Emerging Leaders Program, Crag offers a variety of opportunities to train the next generation of environmental advocates. Crag staff have worked with emerging leaders at various stages in their paths – from law school to high school. For the most part, internships working with our legal team are limited to current law students or those seeking a graduate degree in environmental law and/or policy. Non-legal internships are available for those with a variety of backgrounds and usually involve working with our development and communications team.
Read about our various programs to see how Crag can help you develop your own passion for protecting the environment.
Summer Associates
Through our Summer Associate program, Crag provides opportunities for law students to gain hands-on experience working at a public interest environmental law center. Law students work one-on-one with Crag attorneys, gaining exposure to litigation, advocacy, engaging with clients, and legal research and writing for our active cases.
Our Summer Associate positions are full-time (40 hours/week) for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer (May–August). Summer Associate positions are paid $20/hour for up to 400 hours. Work study funding may also be available to qualifying candidates.
We are no longer accepting applications for our 2023 Summer Associate positions. We will begin our hiring process for our 2024 Summer Associate positions in September 2023, so please check back here then for more details.
Legal Externships
Crag offers limited legal externship opportunities during the fall and spring semesters. If you are a law student interested in a semester legal externship, please contact Maura Fahey at maura[at]crag.org. Inquiries for fall externships must be received no later than August 1st; inquiries for spring externships must be received no later than December 1st.
Communications & Development Internships
We provide non-legal internships for those with a variety of backgrounds and opportunities, and these internships will work closely and be supervised by our development and communications team. Through assisting with communications and fundraising projects, internships provide opportunities to learn about the landscape of environmental laws and how we use them to protect our communities, climate, and wild places.
One of Crag’s goals is to make internships available to people with perspectives historically excluded from the environmental movement. To make our internship program more accessible, we are offering paid stipends to all interns whose school institutions do not provide them funding for summer internships.
Summer Internship positions have been filled.
All Summer internships are typically 6-8 weeks between the months of June – August. Internships may work 20-40 hours a week. While there is some flexibility, general working hours are between 10AM – 6 PM. Please indicate your preference for internship duration in your application. Summer 2023 Internship positions have already been filled.
