Liv Lufkin

2023 Summer Intern

Name: Liv Lufkin

Prounouns: She/her

Education: Graduated from Franklin HS in 2021, currently attending American University pursuing a BA in CLEG (Communications, Legal Studies, Economics, and Government) with a focus on environmental policy.

Hometown: Portland OR

What brought you to Crag? I’ve worked with environmental organizations since high school, all of which were grassroots organizations, focusing mostly on mass actions and education to spur progress. Moving back west for the summer, I wanted to try something different and learn about environmental protection through a more legally focused lens. Crag provided an amazing opportunity for me to pursue that interest.

What are your environmental/legal interests? I’m interested in environmental justice, political ecology, and Indigenous sovereignty.

What will your work focus on while at Crag?: I am a social media intern with Crag this summer.

Favorite places to recreate or be in nature: My family is from Northern Michigan, which is beautiful year-round, but in the summertime provides incredible hikes, beaches, and bike rides. I could spend forever walking the shores of Lake Michigan. In Portland, I enjoy walking in Mount Tabor Park with my two dogs.

Favorite book: Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr

Favorite Quote: “Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” (Do not go gentle into that good night, Dylan Thomas (1947))
